  7. Note: There reportedly is some difficulty printing to network printers
  8. within QRZ.  This is being worked on.  Also, if you are running Windows
  9. 3.1, please set the "Working Directory" for QRZ to "c:\".

  13. Here is a list of some important files and directories on the disc.

  15. setup.exe             Installation program for Windows.

  17. utils\w32view.exe     File Browser for Windows 95, Windows NT, and Win32s.

  19. view.exe              File Browser/Uncompressor for MS-DOS.

  21. qrz.exe               DOS callsign lookup program.  You can also run this
  22.                       directly from the DOS prompt by switching to your
  23.                       CDROM drive and typing qrz instead of view or go.

  36. Quick Start Instructions:

  39.   Windows 95:
  40.     You can install the program icons by selecting the "Start" menu and
  41.     choosing "Run".  At the Run box, type: "D:\setup",  assuming 'D' is
  42.     your cdrom drive.
  43.  
  44.   Windows 3.1/NT:
  45.     Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run.  At the
  46.     Command Line box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.
  47.     This will install a group folder with icons for this cdrom.

  49.   MSDOS Quick Start:
  50.     Change to your CDROM drive and type "view".
  51.     Example:
  52.           C:\> D:
  53.           D:\> view

  55. Using the 00_INDEX.HTM:
  56.  
  57. We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
  58. to view our disc.

  60. In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your
  61. Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file.

  63. For example, in Netscape:

  65.   1. Click on "File"
  66.   2. Click on "Open File"

  78. The 00_index.htm files have been tested under Netscape 3.0 (Windows,
  79. Macintosh, and FreeBSD), and Internet Explorer 3.0 (Windows).

  85. To make browsing the disc easier, we have included the program WinView
  86. for Windows, and the program VIEW for MSDOS on the CDROM.  These programs
  87. allow you to page through index files, browse through directories on the
  88. CD, view documentation and uncompress/install the program(s) you want
  89. onto your hard disk.

  108. This edition includes the all new QRZ/32 database search software designed
  109. specifically for Windows 95 and Windows NT.  This new 32-bit program
  110. includes several new features such as simplified printing, automatic QSL
  111. card generation (and printout), a built-in simple text editor, adjustable
  112. fonts and colors, and a new user interface. It is the most powerful and
  113. advanced version of QRZ yet!

  115. (Note: QRZ/32 does not run under Windows 3.x, and does not work with
  116. Win32/s, however, the original, 16-bit QRZ Windows program, QRZII.EXE is
  117. still included on this CDROM and continues to be supported for users of
  118. Windows 3.x);

  121. More Email Addresses!

  123. Email Address Database QRZ was born on the Internet and is today one of the
  124. most popular amateur radio Internet sites anywhere.  Over the past year,
  125. we've been collecting the email addresses of amateur radio operators from
  126. around the world.  Now, for the first time we are able to share them with
  127. you as a component of the main QRZ database.  There are over 51,000 e-mail
  128. addresses available on this CDROM. The email addresses are displayed right
  129. along with the regular callsign data, whenever they are available.  If
  130. you're on the Internet (http://www.qrz.com), it's easy to add your e-mail
  131. address to the database.

  133. By email, you can add or update your e-mail address by sending a short
  134. message to:

  148. Macintosh Support!

  150. Macintosh Support - This edition introduces a new Macintosh callsign lookup
  151. program (thanks to Mike Kelley, N6ZOC) called callfind.hqx as well as a
  152. Macintosh files and utilities area.

  155. Built-in Image Viewer!
  156.  
  157. QRZ V8 now includes a multi-format image viewer and a small (900+) but
  158. growing collection of digital QSL cards.  These card images are made
  159. instantly available as you browse through the main callsign database.
  160. You'll find a new menu item (Lookup->Images) which you can use to view the
  161. digital QSL cards (or other images) while running QRZ.

  163. It's easy to add your favorite photo, QSL card or other image to the next
  164. QRZ CDROM and have it associated with your callsign using any of the
  165. methods below.  If your image is already in gif format (400x300 max) then
  166. you can send it to us over the Internet by using anonymous FTP at:

  170. You can also mail us your image on floppy disk.  We prefer .GIF formats and
  171. will convert your image to .GIF format if necessary.  We reserve the right
  172. to reject any image that we feel is inappropriate.

  178. Your card, floppy, photo, etc., will not normally be returned to you.  If
  179. you must have your copy back, then please include a self addressed stamped
  180. envelope (SASE) with your letter.  Scanning at QRZ is generally done in
  181. batches so it may be a few weeks before it appears on the Internet and
  182. several months before it hits the next CD.

  184. Callsign Database Updates
  185.  
  186. This edition contains new FCC callsign databases (last updated 20 Oct 96) and
  187. a completely reorganized shareware collection.  We now have listings from
  188. USA, Canada, Mexico, UK, Italy, Turkey, Monaco, Brazil, Portugal, Cuba, and
  189. miscellaneous listings from everywhere.  Since the introduction of our
  190. online DX callsign registration form, we've begun to take on hundreds of
  191. new, exotic callsigns each month.  We're still looking for more DX callsign
  192. databases, and you could qualify for a free subscription to QRZ for helping
  193. us obtain more countries.  For more info contact the author at:

  196. Note: Neither QRZ or Walnut Creek CDROM edits or updates the FCC callsign
  197. data.  If the U.S. information contained in the QRZ Ham Radio CDROM is
  198. incorrect for any callsign, all corrections must be done directly with the
  199. FCC.  The easiest way to do this is to fill out a Form 610 and send it to
  200. the FCC.  The master database at QRZ (http://www.qrz.com) is updated weekly
  201. with fresh FCC information.

  203. Note that we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the callsign database for any
  204. country including the USA.

  207. International Shareware, Info and Mod Files
  208.  
  209. As we continue to improve the quality of our shareware and public domain
  210. data files, we've added a major new section of German/English language
  211. amateur radio files.  Be sure to check them out under X:\german (use your
  212. CDROM drive letter instead of X').  You will also notice that the file
  213. indexes are larger, more complete and include descriptions, file sizes and
  214. timestamps.

  217. QRZ on the Internet

  219. http://www.qrz.com always comes as one of the first hits when you search
  220. InfoSeek for 'callsign'.  Over 250,000 have visited the QRZ Web Site which
  221. features a Netscape enhanced interface.

  223. http://www.qrz.com also provides a point and click interface for our
  224. complete anonymous FTP server, our online catalog as well as the master
  225. copy of the QRZ Callsign Database (with online GIF image display), an
  226. online email registration form, and an online DX callsign entry form.

  228. Be sure and visit the QRZ Anonymous FTP Server on the Internet
  229. (ftp.qrz.com), and/or the mirror site at wcarchive.cdrom.com.  All of the
  230. files found on the QRZ CDROM are there as well as any new updates since the
  231. last edition.  If you would like to contribute shareware or public domain
  232. files of amateur radio interest, you are encouraged to FTP your material to
  233. ftp.qrz.com. You should login with user id anonymous and your e-mail
  234. address as the password.
